ABOUT HERBERTON
Herberton is located 18 km south west of Atherton and is higher up the range and surrounded by eucalypt forests. The historic town of Herberton was established in 1880 during the booming tin mining era and in its prime Herberton supported 20 hotels and 17 pubs. Today the Main Street is lined with the architecture of yesteryear; one of the main attractions to the area is the recently opened “Herberton Mining Museum”.
With an elevation of 900 metres above sea level the spectacular colour of the Jacaranda trees blooming in late October/November is a sight to enjoy.
Heading south from Herberton to Ravenshoe you pass through the localities of Wondecla and Tumoulin and travel on Queensland’s highest bitumen road.
