ABOUT MALANDA
Malanda Township is located on the upper Johnstone River about 20 kilometres south east of Atherton. It services the southern Tablelands providing most facilities including:-

- cafes,
- bakery,

- hardware & rural stores,

Plus there are further business in the industrial estate. Malanda is the home of the Fairy Shop and Wait-a-While craft shop both of which are a delight to browse in.
Malanda is known for its dairy industry, the local milk factory provides milk to Mackay in the South, through to Cape York in the North and Mount Isa in the west. The dairy industry provides the main source of employment in the area.
The Malanda area has a rainfall of 64 inches per year (1625 ml) making it home too many meandering creeks and streams, waterfalls, pockets of rainforest and rolling hills covered with lush green grass. The Malanda Falls is a popular picnic and swimming spot with tourist and locals alike.
Being so picturesque has made Malanda a popular area to live on the tablelands with many small acreage properties surrounding the township.
Malanda was the centre of the Eacham Shire but is now part of the Tablelands Regional Council which is the amalgamation of Eacham, Atherton, Herberton and Mareeba Shires.
Malanda is home to Australia’s oldest operating picture theatre called “The Majestic” and the historic “Malanda Hotel” built in 1911.
Peeramon and Tazalli are small villages to the north and south respectively.
